FAQ

How much are the Set Dancing classes?

Entry is £10 on the door or you can buy a block of 4 classes for £35 which can be used anytime within 2 months of the first class

I’m new to Set Dancing – what exactly is it?

Set Dancing is social dancing, with a partner, danced to traditional Irish music. Four couples form a ‘set’ and dance set moves in turn adding your own flourishes and style as you learn them.

So how will I know the moves?

Usually the sets are called. We will teach you the various moves so you can dance when you hear the call.

Do I need to bring a partner?

No. If you come on your own, we can match you up with a partner for each set.

How long will it take to learn?

If you come as regularly as you can, it shouldn’t take more than four weeks to get the hang of it. You should be able to join in on week one.

Where are the classes?

We hold a weekly session at the New Unity Hall, 277A Upper Street, Islington, London N1 2TZ. It’s less than a 10 minutes walk from either Angel or Highbury & Islington tube/rail stations. There is a bus stop close by and on street parking is available.

Do I need special shoes or clothing?

No. Just wear comfortable clothes and shoes that have a leather or slippery sole (trainers don’t work as they stick to the floor)

It sounds like hard work, do I need to be fit?

It is quite energetic at times but you can take it as slowly as you want. You will build up your confidence and energy levels over time. We have a short break half way through for a chat and a drink (tea is the preferred choice!) and to recharge.
